Storm, a Husky whose owner Lucy had been feeding meat-free dog food and leftover vegetables, chose the bowl described as meat when hosts on This Morning presented him with two bowls. The moment made for a memorable TV anecdote, but it was one choice in one setup—not a test of Storm’s everyday preferences or a guide to what dogs should eat.
What happened to Storm on This Morning?
In an account published by iHeartDogs on January 19, 2025, Lucy said Storm became picky during a summer heat wave. She then began giving him meat-free dog food and leftover vegetables, after a neighbor suggested trying a vegetable-based diet.
During the segment, the hosts reportedly set out two bowls—one described as vegetables and the other as meat. Storm went to the meat bowl. The account does not specify the foods’ ingredients or quantities.
What did Lucy and the veterinarian say?
Lucy described Storm’s response to the food change this way: “During the summer months she went off her food, strangely. She seemed to perk up, be a lot happier. She really took to it,” the iHeartDogs account quotes her as saying.

Veterinarian Scott Miller was a guest on the couch. The article attributes this comment to him: “It’s a choice… our pets can’t make that choice,” and summarizes his point as a reminder that caretakers need to make informed decisions and ensure their pets receive the nutrients they need. These remarks are reported by iHeartDogs; the article is not a verified transcript of the broadcast.
Does Storm’s choice show that he prefers meat?
It shows that, in that moment and with those two bowls presented, Storm went to the bowl described as meat. The account does not report repeated trials, the precise contents or portions, or a clinical assessment. That is not enough to establish his usual preference or explain why he chose that bowl.

The segment is best understood as a light anecdote, not a controlled preference test or a study of canine nutrition. A dog’s single choice on television cannot determine what diet is appropriate for that dog or for dogs generally.

- It establishes: Lucy said Storm had become picky and that she started offering meat-free dog food and leftover vegetables; the hosts reportedly presented separate bowls described as vegetables and meat; Storm went to the meat bowl.
- It does not establish: the exact foods in either bowl, how much Storm ate, whether he made the same choice in other trials, or whether his diet was nutritionally suitable.
- Its limits: the available account is a retrospective secondary report. The original broadcast date and a verified transcript were not established.
For those reasons, the TV moment should not be treated as nutrition advice. The account does not provide enough evidence to assess the safety or nutritional completeness of a meat-free diet for dogs.
