Daily Paws reported that the pair lived with an owner named Mako and that this was their first cuddle together. The moment is charming, but it is a glimpse of two particular animals—not a sign that otters are domestic pets or natural companions for cats.
What happens in the video?
The 43-second clip features Sakura and Mochi curled up together. When Daily Paws published the video feature on January 25, 2021, it reported that the clip had delighted more than 8 million viewers. That is the article’s historical viewership figure, not a current count.

According to Mako, this was the first time the otter and cat had snuggled together. The brief scene is an unusual encounter between two named animals, rather than evidence that otters generally cuddle with cats.

Why a cute otter video needs a wildlife reminder
Otters are wild animals with needs that a brief cuddle cannot show. The Daily Paws feature cautioned that they require their natural environment and family groups to thrive. A sweet moment between Sakura and Mochi should not be taken as encouragement to approach, handle, or acquire an otter.
