Perth Zoo elephant Tricia was not going to be displayed at the WA Museum. On 10 July 2022, Premier Mark McGowan said an appropriate burial would be arranged; later updates changed the plan to cremation, with her ashes returned to Perth Zoo and placed beneath a jacaranda tree on the Main Lawn.
Why was the WA Museum mentioned?
After Tricia died, speculation arose that her remains might be preserved for display at the WA Museum. At the opening of a public memorial walk on 10 July 2022, McGowan rejected that idea. PerthNow reported him saying, “We’ll work out a dignified way of putting Tricia somewhere that is appropriate, burying her somewhere appropriate.” PerthNow, 10 July 2022
