Keep your distance and report the condor promptly to the wildlife contact responsible for the area. Do not touch, feed, handle, move, or try to treat it; let authorized wildlife personnel assess the bird.
Who to call about an injured condor
Reporting contacts depend on where you saw the bird. These numbers and details apply to the locations stated by the agencies, not to every condor sighting.

What to do while you wait
- Stay back. USFWS warns that disturbing birds showing signs of compromised health can be harmful.
- Do not touch, approach, capture, handle, move, feed, or administer treatment to the bird.
- Keep people and pets away without closing in on the condor.
- Leave examination, capture, and treatment to authorized wildlife personnel.
What information to give responders
Observe from a safe distance and share clear details that can help responders locate and assess the bird:

- The precise location, date, and time of the sighting.
- What the condor is doing, how long it has been there, and whether other birds are behaving similarly.
- How many condors are present and any unusual behavior you notice.
- A wing-tag number and color only if you can read them without approaching.
Signs worth reporting
For condors in Arizona or Utah, USFWS lists lethargy, incoordination, dullness or unresponsiveness, holding the head in an unusual position, and walking in circles as signs to report. Describe what you observe rather than trying to diagnose the cause.

Why a prompt report matters
Lead exposure is a major known threat to California condors. USFWS explains that ammunition can fragment on impact and leave pieces in animal remains that condors may eat while scavenging. Appearance alone cannot establish lead poisoning, so report the bird and leave diagnosis to wildlife personnel.
