Use the sign profiles below as playful stereotypes, then compare them with what your cat actually does.
How cat zodiac signs work
In Western sun-sign astrology, a cat’s sign is based on their birth date. Each of the twelve signs has traditional personality associations, but these are entertaining archetypes—not evidence-based descriptions of individual cats.
If your cat’s birthday is unknown, you can use their adoption date as a playful stand-in. Cats may fit their sign’s stereotype, partly fit it, or be the total opposite.
Your cat’s zodiac sign—for fun
The date ranges and descriptions below are illustrative; sign cutoffs can vary slightly between sources. Treat the descriptions as a conversation starter, not as a way to rank cats or choose a pet.

These profiles are broad astrology descriptions, not tested feline behavior categories. Your cat may match one, several, or none. Cats are individuals, and their actual temperament is better understood through observation and interaction.
Does your cat act like their zodiac sign?
Compare the playful stereotype with what your cat actually does: whether they are bold or withdrawn, social or reserved, comfortable with handling, interested in play, or unsettled by changes in their environment. A resemblance can be fun to notice, but it does not show that the sign caused the behavior.

The AAFP’s Feline Behavior Guidelines describes four loose temperament groupings: bold and active; easygoing, affable, and social but non-pushy; withdrawn, shy, timid, or fearful; and assertive. These are broad ways to think about temperament, not zodiac categories. A cat’s individual behavior and fit with a household matter more than their sign.
What your cat is actually telling you
To understand your cat, observe their behavior in context rather than relying on a horoscope. Look at whether they approach or retreat, how they respond to handling and play, and whether they seem comfortable with people, other animals, and changes around them.

If you are trying to understand a particular behavior, note when it happens, what was going on beforehand, and how your cat responds afterward. Repeated observations can help you spot a pattern. If a behavior changes suddenly or concerns you, seek professional veterinary advice rather than explaining it by sign.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a zodiac sign predict my cat’s personality?
No reliable prediction is established by the sources consulted. Sign descriptions are playful stereotypes; observe your individual cat to understand their temperament and preferences.
Does my cat’s birth date determine their behavior?
No. A birth date assigns a sun sign in astrology, but the sign is not a proven explanation for how a cat behaves. Cats are individuals, and their temperament is better assessed through observation and interaction.
Best Value
What if I don’t know my cat’s birthday?
You can use their adoption date as a playful stand-in, or enjoy the sign profiles without assigning your cat a sign.
Should I choose a cat based on their zodiac sign?
No. Consider the cat’s observed temperament and how well it fits your household. Zodiac descriptions are not a substitute for assessing a cat’s behavior and needs.
When should I seek help about a behavior change?
If a change is sudden or concerning, contact a veterinarian for advice instead of attributing it to astrology.
The Bottom Line
Enjoy the horoscope, but get to know the cat. Zodiac signs offer a playful way to talk about feline quirks, not a reliable way to predict personality or determine what a cat needs.
