Spray for toys and scratchers
Spray is a convenient way to scent an object rather than scatter loose herb. Catit describes its spray as concentrated catnip extract for coating toys, scratching posts and play areas. Apply it to the object, not directly to your cat, and avoid the eyes; a Petco veterinary Q&A cautions that spray has greater potential to irritate eyes. Follow the product label and stop if your cat shows irritation.
Catnip-and-silvervine blends

Will your cat respond to catnip?
Not necessarily. Catnip is Nepeta cataria; its active compound is nepetalactone. PetMD says about 60% of cats have a behavioral reaction to catnip. Responses can vary, including relaxation or more active behavior, so a cat’s lack of interest in one toy or format does not establish how it would react to every other product.

If your cat ignores catnip, changing from dried herb to spray may not solve the issue. PetMD identifies silvervine and valerian as alternatives to try. These are options, not guaranteed substitutes. Read PetMD’s catnip guide.
Use catnip modestly and watch for problems
Catnip is not universally effective or risk-free. The ASPCA lists nepetalactone as catnip’s toxic principle and notes possible vomiting, diarrhea, sedation or stimulation. PetMD also warns that large amounts can cause digestive upset. Offer a modest amount, supervise your cat’s response, and stop use if your cat seems unwell. For an individual health concern or a concerning reaction, contact your veterinarian.

Petco’s veterinary Q&A specifically cautions that spray may irritate eyes more readily; it is a precaution, not a complete safety assessment of every spray product.
