Yanchep National Park welcomed three koalas in late October 2024: Miffy, Louie and Franklin Doogsie. They joined resident koalas Kate and Koodah. The arrivals are a dated news event, not a current count of the park’s koalas: the latest official follow-up, announced in August 2026, reported a second joey born at Yanchep in two years.
Who were the three koalas introduced at Yanchep?
In its October 2024 announcement, the Government of Western Australia identified the arrivals as:

- Miffy: a seven-year-old female from Ballarat Wildlife Park.
- Louie and Franklin Doogsie: brothers from Cleland Wildlife Park, each 18 months old at the time of the announcement.
Those ages are from 2024, not current ages. The three joined resident koalas Kate and Koodah. The release described Yanchep’s koalas as a satellite breeding population supporting national conservation efforts and said the park had housed koalas since 1938.

Yanchep’s recent births are a later chapter, not part of the 2024 introduction. In 2025, the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) announced Djilba, the first koala joey born at the park in 15 years. The official reports identify Miffy and Louie Jet as Djilba’s parents. DBCA’s 2025 announcement quoted senior ranger Phillipa Jarvis Carboon: “The team in Yanchep is ecstatic. It’s what we’ve been working towards very definitely in all earnest for about the last six years.”

In August 2026, the WA Government reported another joey: Poppy and Franklin Doogsie had produced a young one estimated to have been born around mid-March 2026. It was about five months old when the announcement was made. The government’s 2026 announcement is the latest official colony news cited here, but it is not a live census. These announcements do not establish a definitive current number or roster of koalas at the park.
When can visitors see the koalas?
DBCA’s Koala Viewing Area page lists daily viewing hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visitors view the animals from a raised boardwalk. Standard Yanchep National Park entry fees apply.
