Looking for a pop-culture name for a cat, or revisiting animated favorites? This guide brings together 44 familiar characters from cartoons, films, comics, children’s books and anime. “Cat” is broad here: the list includes domestic cats, wild felines, a tiger, and fantastical or anthropomorphic characters. It is a nostalgic selection, not a popularity ranking.

How to pick a character-inspired cat name
Start with the kind of reference you want the name to make. A familiar character can be a direct fit, while a contrasting name can be fun for a cat with a very different personality.
- For a relaxed cat: Garfield or Pete may suit a companion who seems content to take the day at an easy pace.
- For a curious troublemaker: The Cat in the Hat, Jiji or Meowth offers a recognizable nod to a more mischievous character.
- For a dignified cat: Duchess, Figaro or Marie draws on elegant Disney felines.
- For a dramatic or bold cat: Puss in Boots, Simba or Bagheera brings a larger-than-life reference.
- For a name that signals a wild feline: Tigger, Hobbes, Tony the Tiger, Simba and Bagheera are tigers, lions or panthers—not domestic cats.
Choose a name you enjoy saying and that feels comfortable to use every day. A character’s species or personality is a source of inspiration, not a prediction of how a real cat will behave.
