Molly, a two-year-old cream-coloured cockapoo who escaped while being dog-sat in Carine, was found and reunited with her family after about two weeks, PerthNow reported on 23 September 2024. The $1,000 reward appeal was part of the earlier search, not an indication that Molly is still missing.
How Molly went missing
PerthNow reported on 15 September 2024 that Molly bolted through the front door of a Carine home while Natalie Burtenshaw was looking after her for her parents. A later sighting placed Molly running along Duffy Road toward Reid Highway.

Six days into the search, Burtenshaw had created a Facebook page to share updates and possible sightings. At the time of PerthNow’s report, the page had more than 100 likes and followers—a snapshot from September 2024, not a current count. The family offered a $1,000 reward for Molly’s safe return.

The family asked nearby residents to check gardens and garages and to leave food or water outside. The initial report also relayed the family’s advice not to call Molly’s name, because they feared it could frighten her further; this was advice specific to their search, not universal lost-dog guidance.

In the appeal, Burtenshaw described uncertainty about where Molly might be: “We believe Molly is looking for her parents so it’s quite possible that she has been found by an older person who Molly has warmed to but we just don’t know,” she told PerthNow. She also said, “This means she (Molly) is moving between the park near Duffy Road and the houses close by, to include Wessex Street.”
The organizer’s fundraiser description placed the search around Carine and Duncraig, near Duffy Road and Carine Open Space, and said Molly was microchipped. Those details come from the organizer; no independent microchip registry record is established in the available coverage. The fundraiser page was indexed with $3,335 raised toward a $3,000 AUD goal from 61 donations. That is a displayed campaign figure, not proof of how much was ultimately paid out or how the funds were accounted for. The organizer said funds were intended for the reward, with money to go to an animal charity if Molly was not found.

Molly was found and reunited with her family
PerthNow’s 23 September 2024 follow-up reported that two local residents found Molly at 6:54 a.m. and that she ran to her owner when called. The report described the reunion as coming after about two weeks. It also quoted the family saying Molly was very skinny and showed signs of exposure, but seemed okay overall; that was the family’s assessment, not a veterinary diagnosis.

The follow-up described the Missing Molly Facebook group as having more than 2.3k followers and 1.8k likes at that time, a dated snapshot. James Burtenshaw thanked the local community, saying, “Thank you, thank you to the whole of the community around the Carine area because you’ve been amazing. It uplifts us because of human nature as it is when the chips are down and the good things that come out of people,” he told PerthNow.
