Perth Veterinary Specialists (PVS) stopped operating on March 12, 2025, and is no longer accepting patients. If your pet was being treated there, contact the veterinarian who referred you: PVS says it transferred patient records to referring veterinarians, who can help arrange ongoing care or another referral.
What to do if your pet was a PVS patient
- Contact your referring veterinarian. PVS says medical records for current and past patients were transferred to each patient’s referring veterinarian. Ask that clinic about your pet’s records, next steps in treatment and an alternative referral if needed. PVS’s closure notice gives this direction.
- Explain any time-sensitive care needs. Tell the veterinarian about upcoming appointments, medication, test results or changes in your pet’s condition so they can advise how quickly a new assessment is needed.
- Confirm availability before travelling. A clinic mentioned in news coverage is not necessarily accepting new referrals or able to provide the specialty your pet needs. Ask about referral requirements, appointment capacity and emergency arrangements directly.
Which services remain at the PVS building?
Veterinary Dermatology Specialists continues to consult and operate from the former PVS building at 305 Selby Street North, Osborne Park, WA 6017, according to the current PVS website. The closure applies to PVS; it does not mean that the dermatology service has also closed.

What alternative referral options have been reported?
In a report published March 12, 2025, PerthNow named Animalius Vet in Bayswater and Perth Vet Emergency in Yokine as possible options for pet owners north of the river. These are dated examples, not a complete directory or confirmation that either provider currently accepts a particular referral. Contact your veterinarian and the provider directly before making plans.

PerthNow reported that an unnamed PVS spokesperson said several of the hospital’s original specialists had retired in recent years, and that attracting specialists to Perth can be difficult because of the city’s geographic location. Those comments provide context, but the available statements do not give a full staffing account or establish one cause beyond the reasons PVS itself cited.
National recruitment context
Jobs and Skills Australia reported in 2024 that the average time to fill a veterinarian vacancy rose from eight weeks in 2014 to 25 weeks in 2023. This is national data for veterinarian vacancies, not a PVS-specific figure or a measure limited to specialist roles. See the Jobs and Skills Australia occupation shortage information.

Does a planned Perth hospital replace PVS?
SASH announced a plan to open a Perth specialist and 24/7 emergency veterinary hospital in late 2026. That is a future opening plan, not a service currently available, and it does not establish the hospital’s eventual capacity or show that it will directly replace PVS. Check SASH’s announcement for updated status before relying on it.
