What the viral story claims happened
According to an Instagram caption attributed to the account wildb.itz, the puppy lost his mother when he was young. Two cows reportedly lived in the same home, and one formed an especially close bond with him. The animals are said to have eaten, slept and stayed together for roughly two years.

The story says the owner later faced financial hardship and sold the cow. After she was taken away, Ruki reportedly howled or cried, stopped eating and searched for her. The account says he followed her scent and voice to another farm. A buyer allegedly agreed to return the cow, and reunion footage is described as showing the dog wagging while the cow licks him.
“Weeps” is a headline description, not proof that the dog produced human-like tears. The available reports do not establish a veterinary diagnosis, the dog’s breed, the cow’s identity or a confirmed explanation for every behavior shown.

Was the puppy really raised by a cow?
The phrase “raised by” comes from the reported relationship, not from evidence that the cow replaced every function of a canine mother. The accounts describe a young dog living closely with a cow that appeared to tolerate, comfort or groom him. That can be a meaningful cross-species attachment, but the footage alone cannot establish how the puppy was fed, housed or cared for during infancy.
Animal friendships across species are possible, especially when animals share a home and routine. Familiar smells, sleeping arrangements and repeated contact can create strong social bonds. None of that, however, proves that the cow understood a human concept of motherhood or that the dog’s behavior had one single emotional cause.
Did Ruki track the cow to another farm?
That is one of the central claims in the 2023 and 2026 tellings. IHeartDogs (December 21, 2023) and The Daily Dot (September 28, 2026) repeat the account that Ruki searched after the sale and located the cow by scent or voice. PawBuzz (February 18, 2018), using the spelling “Rookie,” tells a similar version and links to a YouTube video.

The reports do not provide a documented route, distance, tracking record or independent witness account. A dog may investigate familiar smells or sounds, but the published material does not establish exactly how the animals were located or who transported them.

The two spellings most likely refer to the same dog; newer coverage uses Ruki, while the older repost uses Rookie. No reliable source supplied a confirmed owner name, country or farm.
How strong is the evidence that the reunion is real?
The strongest published qualification comes from The Daily Dot: “The Daily Dot cannot confirm the events shown in this video on its own, including the location where they happened, the people involved, or the exact circumstances behind the cow’s sale and return.” That limitation matters because a short clip can show an interaction without proving its backstory, date or sequence.

What viewers can reasonably take from the video
The footage can be viewed as an illustration of a striking dog–cow attachment. It is reasonable to say the animals appear familiar and comfortable with one another in the recorded interaction. It is not reasonable to turn the caption into a verified biography or to diagnose the dog’s inner state from crying, howling or appetite changes alone.
For animal-welfare reporting, the distinction is practical: distress after separation can signal a disrupted routine or bond, but persistent refusal to eat, vocalizing or searching behavior would warrant observation and veterinary advice in a real household. The viral clip does not tell viewers whether professional care was sought.
Bottom line on the “mama cow” story
Ruki (also called Rookie) and the unnamed cow are presented in multiple reports as an orphaned puppy and his surrogate companion. The reported sequence—roughly two years together, separation after a sale, distress, a search and reunion—is consistent across retellings. The event’s location, participants and exact circumstances remain unverified, so the safest description is that the video is presented as showing a reunion, not that every part of the viral story has been proven.
