PerthNow reported on August 7, 2025, that resort staff suspected a monkey had entered through an open bathroom window. The report describes one incident and does not establish an independently verified entry or theft.
What happened to the tourist’s AirPods in Bali?
PerthNow reported that Walsh was away from her room for a massage when resort staff sent her a video showing the room in disarray. The headphones were reportedly found fallen in the room, which led a staff member to suspect a monkey had been inside. Walsh said her AirPods were gone, while their case was left behind. The report does not identify the AirPods model or generation.

The video, as described and transcribed by PerthNow, showed the aftermath; it did not show a monkey inside the room. A staff member pointed to an open bathroom window as the suspected route in, saying, “This window was open and I’m afraid the monkey was coming from the outside into the inside and messed things up.” That is the staff member’s explanation, not a confirmed account of how the room was entered.

What did Walsh say about the incident?
Walsh shared the video on TikTok with the caption “Those silly cheeky Bali monkeys,” according to PerthNow. She told the outlet the incident would not stop her from returning to Bali and described it as a reminder that visitors are in the monkeys’ home environment. She also said she and her companions found what happened funny and cute.

Does this show that monkeys commonly enter Bali accommodation?
No. This is an anecdotal report about one resort room, not evidence of a rate or trend of macaques entering villas or taking guests’ belongings. The report does not describe an independent investigation, and it does not establish that a monkey was seen in the room.
There is broader official context, but it should not be confused with proof about this incident. Bali’s conservation authority has identified macaque-related visitor safety and interaction management at tourism sites, including Uluwatu, as concerns. That guidance concerns tourism sites; it does not explain this particular room incident or provide specific advice about private villas.

What should travelers know about valuables and monkey encounters?
Australia’s Smartraveller advice for Indonesia says theft can occur when entering or leaving accommodation, including villas in Bali, and advises keeping bags and valuables out of sight. This is general travel advice, not a finding that a person stole Walsh’s AirPods.
